The General Instrument 2400R C/KU band integrated receiver descrambler (IRD) is a very basic analog satellite receiver that is ideal for people who only want the basic features needed to tune in C-Band satellites. These receivers have been extremely reliable over the years, are among the easiest to program, and are easy to get parts for today. Picture quality is very good on both 7.5' and 10' dishes and when using an accurate actuator, dish fine tuning is rarely needed.

Being one of the most basic receivers, it only has an infrared remote and doesn't have any on-screen graphics. With that said, it's not a great canidate to connect to TV's all over your house unless walking in to the room where the receiver is located to change satellites and channels isn't a problem. Unlike most satellite receivers that can be programmed using the remote, this receiver must be programmed using the buttons on the front of the unit. Like the receiver, the remote is basic and straightforward, although all of the buttons on the remote are the same size and color, so the remote isn't as user friendly as it could have been. Both the satellite and channel are displayed by easy to read green LEDs on the receiver.

Programming Note: When programming this receiver, start by programming the east and west limits, then program the satellites from the west to the east. This way the most used satellites (F4, G1, F3, G5) will come up first when changing satellites.
